ROHIT GERA VICE PRESIDENT, CREDAI-PUNE METRO Budget-2012 is a "NO-Show" budget for the real estate sector. Excise duty and service tax has been increased by 2%, from 10% to 12%, which is neither in favour of the construction industry nor home buyers. The selling cost will definitely increase leading to costlier homes. The Government has allowed external commercial borrowings (ECB) for low cost affordable housing projects. If it is done in a credible manner, it has the possibility of providing affordable housing. The service tax exemption on rental house is indeed a good move. Also, 1% interest rate subsidy provided for loans towards affordable housing i.e on 15 Lakh loan for Rs. 25 L worth house, will continue, which is a welcome sign. I will term this as a neutral budget. D S KULKARNI CMD, DSK DEVELOPERS Even this year's budget has nothing to offer. The increase of 2% service tax is a way of welcoming inflation. No strong steps have been put up to curtail it. The money will be saved from the tax exemption increased to 2 lacs, but increase in 2 % service tax will squeeze money from one’s pocket. So, from one hand you are getting and from other you are giving. Who is the winner? Certain decisions like improved water facilities in villages, GST implementation from August month, funds for SHG etc. are good moves, but the success will depend upon the way it is executed. When Government feels the burden of financial crunches, they levy heavy taxes on various objects which ultimately affect the common man.

My son Tattva had been enrolled in the intermediate level and has been coached by the Vishwanathan Anand Chess Academy coach . Tattva has made remarkable strides and will be on his way to get his FIDE rating in November. A lot of credit goes to the mentor for his unique way of handling his students. He has been very patient while working with Tattva on his areas of improvement. In addition before the tournament the coach had voluntarily added additional classes and doubled his efforts to get a better performance out of Tattva. He has shown complete ownership which is commendable. I hope he continues to develop more and more chess players in the coming days.
